Title: “The Inhabitants Thereof: Jews and the American Revolution”

In recent years, historians have discussed the impact of the American revolution on Jews and Judaism in the United States. In this talk, we will explore the impact that Jews had on the revolution itself. New research has shown that Jews played an important role in the American military, politics and law, beginning with the Stamp Act until and including the drafting of the Federal Constitution. The United States was the first country in the world to extend the rights and benefits of citizenship to its Jewish population, although discrimination has continued ever since. At this moment, when antisemitism is on the rise again, it is important to remember the founding principles of this country, which were highly inclusive of our particular religious minority.
